September 9 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm EDT
This is a developing event. The date and time may shift. Please RSVP below and sign up for an Arena account to stay up to date on this and other events.
This roundtable is the first in a series that will examine priority issues of current foreign assistance programming focused on inclusive, sustainable, resilient economic growth. These roundtables are organized by the International Development Arena, which is a new initiative from International Development Group LLC (IDG).
This roundtable seeks to identify the defining challenges and opportunities in 2021 for supporting inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economic recovery and growth. This is set against the backdrop of the pandemic, trade barriers, geopolitics, climate change, and resulting current global economic conditions. As a new US administration begins, this event will discuss how they will focus on ensuring the poor and marginalized communities are brought into the economic growth net given 2021’s specific challenges.
The 2021 New World Order is characterized by multiple, compounding challenges that have exacerbated global poverty particularly among the least resilient. But, 2021 also presents opportunities for smart, inclusive economic growth strategies to reverse these downward trends. The world is beginning to emerge for COVID-19, which has been not only a health calamity but also an economic disaster that destroyed jobs, worsened fiscal crises, and hampered international trade connectivity at a time when trade already was under pressure from anti-globalist sentiments. Climate change and malign influence from China and Russia compound these challenges. In this context, the ramp-up of the new Biden-Harris administration creates opportunities for new approaches to these intractable issues.
The roundtable will consist of brief informal presentations and dialogue.
The first hour of the event will be spent in a roundtable format with short, informal presentations, dialogue among speakers, and Q&A from all participants. This will be followed by a virtual coffee break for up to 30 minutes during which participants can mingle with speakers and others in small groups on an innovative virtual platform.
